MISSION STATEMENT
MyFlare™ serves to provide the best personal protection for smartphone users in the event of a distressed or emergency situation.
ABOUT MYFLARE™
It is commonplace to dial 911 in case of an emergency, but what if you are unable to speak or there is insufficient time to communicate the specifics of the distressed situation? What if there are family members or friends close to your location who could get to you quicker than first responders? What if you are grabbed or running for your life and you end up in a different location than when you first called 911? What if you are left with absolutely no line of defense? Are you out of luck?
The answer is NO. MyFlare™ is your personalized digital flare gun that sends out multiple layers of support in the event you're in an emergency. MyFlare™ cleverly employs the essential resources on your smartphone -- phone, text, e-mail, GPS, audio and video -- to provide you additional personal safety and faster emergency response. MyFlare™ allows you to utilize those resources collectively in ways that are humanly impossible to do on your own (for example, automatically delivering multiple messages to different people simultaneously). The app's functionality is simple and simultaneous -- critically in a potentially life-threatening situation.
Upon activation, MyFlare™ calls 911 or your designated non-911 emergency contact, while simultaneously texting and e-mailing up to 10 of your pre-selected contacts your customized distress message, along with your GPS location; recording video of your present environment (optional); and blasting a police siren (optional), which will sound continuously except when the phone is in use. Your smartphone's video camera will record 20 seconds every few minutes (as determined by the user), which will be attached to the delivered e-mails. These recordings could be considered crucial in an emergency, especially if your pre-selected contacts recognize the location and/or potential perpetrators. They also may be used as evidence to aid in a police investigation.
Not only does MyFlare™ alert your pre-selected contacts of your emergency, but it delivers the distress message every three minutes with your updated GPS location until you deactivate the app. This may prove to be helpful as evidence in legal proceedings or in the event that you are fleeing an emergency situation, or worse, abducted.
USER TIPS
- App Placement: Make sure that MyFlare™ is located on your smartphone's home screen. You don't want to have to spend time searching for the app when you need to launch it immediately in the event of an emergency.
- Calling 911: Keep in mind that MyFlare™ automatically calling 911 is the same as you manually calling 911. If you accidentally activate MyFlare™, do not hang up without talking to the dispatcher first. Explain that you misdialed and didn't mean to call 911. This will save the dispatcher some very valuable time.
- Contact Notification: When you choose your pre-selected emergency contacts (MyFlare Contacts™), MyFlare™ will immediately notify them via SMS text message and/or e-mail (depending on the manner you selected them). However, we recommend that you remind them in case they forget or disregard the notification.
- GPS/Wi-Fi: If GPS or Wi-Fi is not turned on in the event of an emergency situation, MyFlare™ will either turn on GPS for you automatically or it will prompt you to turn on the location service when the app is activated (depending on your phone model). However, it is strongly recommended that you enable GPS and/or Wi-Fi on your smartphone indefinitely so MyFlare™ can be at maximum efficiency when you need it the most.
- Video Recordings: You have the ability to designate how frequently you want new video recordings to be delivered to your MyFlare Contacts™. It is strongly recommended to space out the recordings every five e-mail cycles in order to maximize the amount of time that MyFlare™ will be operational. Please note that the higher frequency of video dispatches will decrease your smartphone’s battery life.
-
Emergency Mode: Depending on your cellular provider and operating system, dialing 911 initiates an emergency mode on your smartphone, which disables all network and data connectivity for five minutes or as soon as you terminate the emergency mode. Afterward, MyFlare™ will resume operations without subsequent user intervention. Please keep in mind that the app is subject to network connectivity, and limitations of network coverage can affect its performance.
RECIPIENT TIPS
- Once you receive a text or e-mail distress message from the MyFlare user, call, text or e-mail the user to see how you can help.
- If you cannot get a hold of the MyFlare user immediately, call 911 and report the situation. Provide the emergency contact on the phone with all of the information you are receiving from the user, including the user's distress message, GPS location and any video files.
- If you are in close proximity to the MyFlare user's GPS location, try to offer on-site assistance, but please use caution. You want to be careful not to put yourself at risk as well.
